Texas House District 56: Erin Shank vs. Pat Curry

We evaluate candidates for the Texas Legislature based on 3 criteria:

  • We are looking for candidates who will support fully funding public schools.
  • We are looking for candidates who will vote NO on school vouchers.
  • We are looking for candidates who are focused on the real concerns facing public schools, not spreading harmful, unfounded narratives that undermine trust.

Texas House District 56 represents most of McLennan County except for East Waco. The candidates running for the seat are Erin Shank and Pat Curry.  It is an open seat previously held by Doc Anderson who retired, so there is no incumbent.

Both candidates say they would support better funding for public schools.

Shank says she would vote NO on vouchers. Curry is endorsed by Greg Abbott, so he will probably vote YES on vouchers.
